After Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government was only interested in photo opportunities and was anti-English, BJP hit back at Congress, saying Rahul Gandhi’s entire political career had been a photo opportunity. [caption id=“attachment_1801467” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] BJP lashed out at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his comments against the government. AFP[/caption] BJP leader Nalin Kohli told ANI, “Rahul Gandhi’s entire political career has been full of photo-ops, which include travelling in a local train and tearing down an ordinance. Leaving aside the goodwill of the name he has inherited, what has been his achievements?” Rahul Gandhi’s comment on “angry people running India and trying to ban English” also drew a round of political squabbling over the language. “It seems the Congress will hate what Modi likes…like the Hindi language. Rahul Gandhi opposed Hindi. We respect all languages. We are not opposed to the use of English. Rahul Gandhi has no right to insult Hindi,” said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, according to reports. “They are talking of photo-ops, but they are forgetting that Modi is trying to make a nation of Mahatmaji’s dream of a clean India,” said Hussain, in response to Rahul Gandhi’s statements. “The Congress president and vice president grabbed the opportunity of Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary to engage in party politics,” Hussain told ANI. “Today, the love on the basis of which this country is run is being destroyed,” Rahul Gandhi had said earlier on Thursday in New Delhi on the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, adding that Nehru had always encouraged the usage of English in India. But, today, “the people who are running the country on the basis of anger say Hindi should be used in place of English,” he said, alleging that the government was causing unnecessary conflicts based on language. Taking a dig on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Rahul had further said, “People are cleaning the streets for photo ops, but the same people are spreading poison elsewhere.”
