At a time when the Congress party is arguably at its best, attacking the NDA government on several fronts, party loyalist HR Bhardwaj has once against lashed out at the party’s high command and questioned whether its vice president Rahul Gandhi had any inclination towards leading it. IBNLive Image[/caption] Speaking to The Indian Express, the former Karnataka Governor said: “Rahul is a young man. He has to lead the young people. But he is not in touch with the senior people, he doesn’t show any inclination, So he is out of touch. I was in his father’s cabinet, I filed his first election nomination. But he didn’t join the cabinet of Dr Manmohan Singh and learn these things.” The former law minister also hit out at the on-going Lalit Modi controversy saying he avoided the IPL because he knew there was widespread corruption. “When I was (Karnataka) governor I came to know that there was widespread corruption and that is why I never went to watch a single match despite many requests. I avoided it because the whole complexion of cricket was changed by bringing in dancing girls and other such things…. It is amazing that an entire lot of politicians are involved in the IPL and they have become so involved that they are now attacking one another,” he told The Indian Express. However, this isn’t the first time that Bhardwaj has raised questions about the functioning of the Congress party. In March this year, he attacked party chief Sonia Gandhi for deliberately ignoring allegations of corruption charges in the UPA government that led to the downfall of the party in the Lok Sabha polls. “Does Sonia Gandhi not understand what happened, why it happened and who did it? Everything is known. That is the style. Sharing no responsibility and yet do everything,” he had told Headlines Today, referring to the coal scam case where former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been named as an accused, adding that “It is a matter of great sorrow that our leaders are getting summons from the court…” Bhardwaj accused the Congress of losing control of its corrupt ministers in UPA-2, which resulted in its unprecedented defeat in Lok Sabha elections, winning just 44 seats, The Times of India reported. “The nation assessed UPA-2. India Against Corruption became the biggest movement after JP Andolan (of 1975),” he had said, calling for the party to “introspect why it has gone down so badly”. Bhardwaj had also backed Priyanka Gandhi, saying the constant targeting of Robert Vadra was to ensure she stays out of politics. “She resembles her grandmother Indira Gandhi. I have no doubt that if she roams around, she can involve the masses and revive the party,” he had said.
Nehru-Gandhi loyalist and former Union minister HR Bhardwaj once again targeted the Congress leadership questioning whether Rahul Gandhi was at all inclined towards leading the party.
