Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday described the SAD-BJP alliance’s victory in the city municipal corporation election as “historic” and said it will prove as a “trendsetter” for ensuring back to back victory for the alliance for the third consecutive term in the upcoming state Assembly polls.

In a shot in the arm for BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of Punjab Assembly polls, their alliance defeated Congress in Chandigarh municipal corporation election in which demonetisation had emerged as a key issue.

Badal termed the win as a “trailer”, and said the complete film would emerge after the “spectacular victory” of the alliance in ensuing Assembly polls.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Akali patriarch said, “This result (MC polls) would prove as a trendsetter for ensuring back to back victory of the alliance for the third consecutive term in the state.”

Badal said the massive mandate in favour of “pro-people policies and solid performance” of BJP at the Centre under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has silenced the opposition for unleashing “malicious propaganda to defame the government.”

An exuberant Badal congratulated all the workers and leaders of the SAD-BJP alliance and said the collective would repeat the feat in the 2017 Assembly polls.
