On the occasion of her birthday on Tuesday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati urged her party workers to gift her the newly forged SP-BSP alliance’s victory in Lok Sabha polls for her birthday. She also slammed the central and state governments for anti-farmer and pro-capitalist policies on the occasion. Addressing the press on her birthday, the BSP chief lauded the party workers in all states and asked them to bury the hatchet with Samajwadi Party members and work towards a successful win for all the alliance’s candidates. “That would be the real birthday gift,” she said.

Mayawati came down heavily on the BJP-led central government for its ‘poor’ agrarian policies and also slammed the newly-elected Congress governments in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan for an insufficient farm loan waiver. “The government should give 100 percent farm loan waiver otherwise farmer suicides will continue. A strong farm loan waiver policy should be made,” Mayawati asserted. “We have always worked for the poor and the down-trodden,” she added.

Mayawati reiterated that the BSP’s alliance with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) for the Lok Sabha elections has given the ruling BJP “sleepless nights”. On Saturday, Mayawati and Akhilesh announced an alliance for the general elections in Uttar Pradesh. The parties, once arch-rivals, will contest 38 seats each and have left two seats — Amethi and Raebareli — for the Congress. With inputs from agencies
