The alleged National Rural Health Mission mega scam in Uttar Pradesh has turned out to be an election issue with all political parties not only trying to pin down Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) but also blaming each other. [caption id=“attachment_194893” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Tough war ahead. PTI”] [/caption] With CBI raids on, the scam has already claimed five lives and cannot come to the forefront at such an inopportune time for state Chief Minister Mayawati. The ruling party is finding it hard to shake off the burden of the scandal. Jumping to grab the opportunity handed on a platter, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, “Where has the money gone? Already four people are killed and the fifth one has committed suicide. It might be a murder as well. It is a matter of investigation.” BJP’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “(The BSP) should not try to hide behind its scams.” Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said in a election rally, “I had already alerted the Centre about the siphoning off of funds in the health scheme. Why didn’t the Congress party demand for an investigation?” Congress hit back by saying that funds started coming when the Samajwadi Party was in power in the state. But for now, it looks like the Uttar Pradesh chief minister has no other defence other than complaining about the alleged misuse of the CBI. Watch more in the IBN7 video below:
