Now Kejriwal takes on BJP, says its Cong vs AAP in Delhi polls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has shown that when it comes to trash talking before a big game, he’s as good as the best of them. First the the party declared that Kejriwal would file his nomination from the same New Delhi constituency chief minister Sheila Dikshit contests from. Kejriwal added that if Dikshit changed her mind about her constituency, he would file his nomination from the whichever constituency she fights from. In a statement clearly intended to prove that it’s not just the Congress Chief Minister who is on his hit list, Kejriwal has now tweeted that the BJP are effectively out of the game in Delhi.

And the BJP is understandably not amused. In a statement to ANI News, BJP leader Vijay Jolly said, “The AAP is a B-team of the Congress. Kejriwal’s sole aim is to divide the opposition. We don’t need his poll certificate” However while Kejriwal’s announcements are getting a lot of media attention and social media traction, Firstpost editor Anant Rangaswami says he would do well to dial it down a notch or three. He says: Firstly, despite the seeming support that Kejriwal and the AAP seem to be receiving, there is no guarantee that the support will translate into votes. Dikshit (and the Congress party) have the advantage of experience, and will pull out all the dirty tricks to ensure that Dikshit wins. Voters could be bribed, bullied and cajoled… If Kejriwal wins against Dikshit, but the party, as a whole, comes a cropper, the chances that the constituency will be ignored by the eventual winners of the elections are high – such is politics. Winners of state or national elections tend to treat constituencies which embarrassed them at the hustings and Kejriwal’s constituency will be no different – if the battle is projected as he has done. Kejriwal could have found himself a ‘safe’ constituency with no superstar to defeat. In such an event, he would still get the fame and the credibility attendant to an election win, without the downsides possible in a battle with Sheila Dikshit. The tragedy is, once more, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party doesn’t want to remain one – he wants to be a star.
