On Congress’ objection to the appointment, Singh said, “I do not agree with it. Congress has nothing left to do. They are unnecessarily finding faults. They are unable to tolerate their defeat (in Lok Sabha polls),” Singh said.

When asked if BJP has sidelined him by appointing him as the Governor, he said, “I have not been sidelined, but the party has given me honour. I am a disciplined soldier of the party… I have been given an important responsibility”.

When asked if he was reluctant to become the Governor, he said, “Forget the past”.

Hailing Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Singh said, “I have come here to assist the government and not as its competitor”.

“I have come as a ‘janta ka sevak’ (public servant) in Rajasthan which has a glorious past and history. The Chief Minister here is very competent, able, confident and struggling for the welfare of the poor people.

“Late Mrs Vijay Raje Scindia had given love (to me) like a son and honour too… Now, I feel that I have come to my younger sister’s (Raje) home as an elder brother. It is a constitutional post. I will not cross the line. This is my new inning after active politics of 60 years in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

On his supporters raising slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” during his swearing-in ceremony, he said, “This is related to people’s ‘shradha aur nishtha’ (feelings), no one can restrict it.”
