Not Pakistan, China a bigger threat to India: Mulayam Singh

Despite the continuous disruptions in both houses of Parliament today, Mulayam Singh Yadav tried to bring up the issue of China’s incursions in to India. Attacking the government on the issue, the Samajwadi Party chief asked the government to act immediately on the issue and said China is the biggest threat to the country. “If there is a big enemy that India has, it is China. It isn’t Pakistan. There is no threat from them. China is a threat,” he said. [caption id=“attachment_736713” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Mulayam Singh Yadav. Reuters[/caption] The SP chief alleged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not seriously raised any question about the China incursion. He said that all the parties will back the government on any steps in takes in the matter of China incursion. “There has never been a bigger humiliation of India by China in the past except perhaps in 1962. Why isn’t the government giving the orders to the Indian Army to stop this incursion?,” Yadav asked. Yadav said that India will now beg China to return home, as they have taken over the country’s land. However, “China will not relent,” he added. The Samajwadi Party leader also lashed out at opposition MPs who chanted slogans against the Prime Minister throughout his speech saying, “This is a very serious issue. Please ask the BJP MPs to listen to me”. Breaking his silence over the Chinese incursion issue, on Sunday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said it was a “localised problem” and expressed confidence that the issue can be resolved. “We do have a plan. We do not want to accentuate the situation. We do believe that it is possible to resolve this problem. It is a localised problem. I think the talks are going on,” he said when asked about the stand-off. On 15 April, a platoon-strength contingent of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had come inside the Indian territory in Burthe in the Daulat Beg Oldie sector and established a tented post there. The government told a Parliamentary Committee that Chinese troops have pitched tents 19 kilometres deep inside the Indian territory in Ladakh region. The Army has given its inputs to the Government and the National Security Advisor-headed China Study Group, which is handling the present situation in Ladakh.
