No roads, no brides: Will Modi help the bachelors of Adhaura?

As Narendra Modi promises to solve the troubles of people across the country, Badwan Kalan and Badwan Khurd, villages located in Adhaura hills of Kaimur, Bihar have a peculiar problem at hand. Since their is no road connecting to the village, the bachelors of the villages don’t get marriage proposals. The villagers desperately hope for a road so that it is easier for the youth in the village to get married. [caption id=“attachment_1469695” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Narendra Modi. PTI[/caption] Indian Express reports, “They have heard of “kamal phool wale Modiji (Narendra Modi)” being a bachelor and are resting their hopes on him to complete the road if he comes to power. They often talk in whispers about “buying” brides from Jharkhand and UP. No man has got married in Badwan for two years. The villagers’ most recent memory is of two youths marrying “brides” they claim were “bought from Jharkhand for Rs 6,000 each”.” This is an India that is not seen in the news. Reportedly, for the past five years, have been trying to cut through the hills to make a road. Now all their hopes are on Modi. Since he is a bachelor, the villagers expect him to understand their woes. “I learnt he is a bachelor. Can he think about bachelors if he comes to power? Give us the road, we will get brides, Modiji,” India Express quoted a farmer, Bajrang Singh Yadav, as saying. Accessibility to the village is so poor that people often lie about having homes in the plains to get married. However, once the bride finds out where the groom leaves, she refuses to live with him. “We often lie that we have houses in the plains to attract marriage proposals. Ramadhin Yadav got married last year saying so. Now his wife is not willing to live with him at Badwan,” Indian Express quoted former panchayat mukhiya Ram Dayal Singh as saying.
