Nitish Kumar resigns as Bihar CM: BJP not in favour of mid-term polls in state, says Sushil Modi

The BJP does not favour mid-term polls in Bihar and wants all legislators to complete their term, senior party leader Sushil Modi said on Wednesday just after Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister.

"We are happy that Nitish Kumar did not compromise on the issue of corruption and did not bow down to the RJD. The BJP is not in favour of mid-term polls and wants that all MLAs complete their term," he told reporters here.

At a meeting of the state BJP, it was decided that Sushil Modi and some other leaders will apprise the central party leadership of the developments.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das on Wednesday termed the resignation by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as "correct and brave" .

“On the way of corruption-free Bihar, it is a correct and brave decision on the part of Nitish Kumar. Congratulations to Shri Nitish Kumar,” Das said in a statement here.

Stating that corruption had made the country "hollow", he said Kumar would get the support of the country in his fight against corruption.
