Social activist Anna Hazare on Friday said that he had never praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and also said that BJP’s agenda for the polls was a communal one. “I have never praised Modi. BJP’s whole agenda is communal,” Hazare said. [caption id=“attachment_970179” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Anna Hazare. AFP[/caption] Hazare clarified that he had never called Modi communal. “I didn’t say that Modi is not communal, I said I cannot say whether he is or not,” he said. When asked who should be prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections he said he does not find anyone fit for the post. “Be it Modi or Rahul Gandhi, the leader should be chosen by the public, not by parties,” Hazare said. Criticising political parties, Hazare said that it is only a true democracy when the people choose its leader. On Wednesday, Hazare demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh step down from his post, accepting “moral responsibility” for the coal block allocation scandal. “The picture is very clear in the coal scam. The truth of the scam is coming out, so Manmohan Singh should not continue as Prime Minister. He should resign accepting moral responsibility (for the scam),” he had said. With inputs from PTI
