Tough times need tough decisions: Digvijaya Singh on diesel hike

Digvijaya Singh, General Secretary of the Congress party, said in spite of elections approaching, the party took the decision on the diesel hike as they had decided to put the nation first.

"Politics is an art of the possible, so we have to take into all these issues into consideration and take a pragmatic view, what is best for country. Nation comes first before the party," Singh said to CNN-IBN.

"Tough times need tough decisions," he added.

The senior Congress leader also said the party would continue to back PM Manmohan Singh if similar tough decisions were needed to cut subsidies.

"The Congress party solidly backs Dr Manmohan Singh as the PM of India," he said.
