All the exit polls had predicted a win for BJP and the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, but few might have predicted a landslide win of the scale that has been witnessed today. The BJP seems set to reach a majority in the Lok Sabha on its own and could cross over 300 seats along with allies. Meanwhile, the Congress might end at one of its lowest totals in its history, potentially spelling doom for the grand old party of India that was in power for the last 10 years. Sonia Gandhi: We accept the verdict of the people. We hope that that the party that will form the government will work with all communities of the country…The Congress will always fight on the basis of its ideals and beliefs and will never compromise on them. I would like to thank all the party workers for their work. I accept the loss. Jairam Ramesh: The Congress has faced difficult times in the past. It has a vast reservoir of strength. It has workers in every village and every town. The resilience of the Congress will be tested, but we will come out of this. Every candidate, party should introspect about their performance. This kind of an election has never ever happened in the history of this country.
