Narendra Modi has decided to skip to the National Integration Council meet chaired by the Prime Minister today. The meet has been convened with the view of finding ways to boost the country’s internal and external security following the Muzaffarnagar riots that killed 43 people in Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister had invited chief ministers and leaders of all states to attend the meet. While Mulayam Singh Yadav was spotted sitting and talking to Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar was greeted enthusiastically by LK Advani. Akhilesh Yadav too was spotted at the meet. However, Modi was conspicuous by his absence. Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh also skipped the meet. [caption id=“attachment_1127343” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

The proposed Communal Violence Bill, opposed by some states as it envisages empowering the Central government to send central forces unilaterally in case of communal disturbances, is also expected to be discussed in the meeting. Steps taken to tackle crimes against SCs/STs, associating all sections of society in removing inter-caste tension will also be discussed in the day-long meeting convened after two years.
However, it is just the Gujarat CM, also BJP’s PM candidate, who has drawn widespread criticism for having missed the meet. Following are some reactions on Twitter:
However, his fans on social media weren’t far behind. Some even commented that it doesn’t look good if ’two PMs’ are in the same meet, so he decided to pass the NIC meet.
