Lok Sabha Election 2019 Updates: At his Kurukshetra rally, not only did Narendra Modi recite an ostensible list of abuses he has allegedly received from Congress leaders, but he ended the list with the announcement that even though he never gets emotional on stage, this time he had to because he has “returned home.” He then said that he was unsure as to how his words would be interpreted by media, “because Congress has held sway over most media” and thus urged the attendees of his rally to spread the word on the insults he was being subject to, on social media. Narendra Modi also said that the Congress’s ethos of “love” was a false one and questioned the party’s “dictionary of love.” He then listed what he believed was a list of the many insults that have apparently been hurled at him by the party’s leaders. “They have called me a resident of the gutter, a rat, a monkey, Hitler, death merchant and so on,” Modi said. Speaking at his second rally of the day, at Haryana’s Kurukshetra, began by slamming the grand alliance (which he has grown to call the ‘mahamilavat’) as a group of parties who ‘insult the Ramayan and Mahabharat all day.’ He traipsed through favoured tropes of Congress’s indifference to national security and said while the rest of India was proud at Abhinandran Varthaman’s return, Congress had instead called for a Nobel for Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan, for returning the prisoner of war. A day after he set the ball rolling by calling Narendra Modi a ‘modern-day Aurangzeb’ who destroyed the temples of Varanasi, Sanjay Nirupam stepped up the charge by tweeting that the very temples of Varanasi which Ahilyabai Holkar had built were taken down by Modi. “The head priest of the Kashi Vishwanath temple has said that the court has stayed the whole plan (of Modi’s). Yogi Adityanath is getting impatient,” the Congress leader wrote. RJD leader Rabri Devi commented on Wednesday on Priyanka Gandhi calling Modi ‘duryodhana’ by saying that the Congress leader had made a mistake by calling him this name. “She should have used a different language for him. They are all butchers, all butchers. The people who get judges and journalists killed, get them lifted, what will their sense of judgement be like? It will be like that of murderers,” said Rabri Devi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that dynasty politics is prevalent in many states in the country. “Dikshit family in Delhi, Hooda family in Haryana, Scindias in Madhya Pradesh, Gehlots in Rajasthan, there is dynastic rule in many states. Jammu and Kashmir has the Abdullah family, Bihar has Lalu’s clan and Maharashtra has Pawar’s family, Karunanidhi’s family is flourishing in Tamil Nadu are practicing dynasty politics. People who have risen from the bottom are given no weight in these parties,” he said.
“Such parties cannot be representatives of the 21st century India’s ideologies. They want votes in the names of their ancestors. Goa govt urges EC to ease poll code for pre-monsoon works
The Goa government has requested the Election Commission to relax the model code of conduct in South Goa district, where voting for the Lok Sabha polls has concluded, to take up pre-monsoon works.
Goa’s Chief Secretary Parimal Rai wrote a letter to the state chief electoral office last Friday, urging that the poll code be relaxed in the South Goa district, where voting took place on 23 April. State Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said they have received the letter and pre-monsoon works are allowed in the South Goa district on a case-to-case basis.

Haryana village provides tailor-made crowds for political rallies
In the Guhla Cheeka village located on the Punjab-Haryana border, taxi operators provide “kits” and “packages” to facilitate vehicles and crowds for political rallies.
A “kit” refers to a five or seven-seater car with or without as many occupants. A “package” includes 50 “kits”. High-end “packages” also offer “characterisation” of crowds. “If it is a rally in Punjab, they want more Sikhs. And if it’s a rally in Haryana, they want more Jats. So we provide all kinds of crowds. We have our own cars as well and since a large number of vehicles are needed for rallies, we outsource them for a commission,” Binny Singhla, a local taxi operator, told PTI.
According to Singhla, there is usually a demand for 150-500 “kits” whenever there are rallies in Punjab and Haryana. While a five-seater car alone is available for Rs 2,500, one with occupants costs Rs 4,500. In case of requirement of modification in the look of the crowd, a “kit” can cost up to Rs 6,000.
Asked about the people who form the crowd, Kapoor explained, “They are the ones who work in farms or shops. Even college boys and ‘ghunghat’-clad women, who are homemakers, are ready to go to rallies as long as they are paid and treated well.
Opposition mahagathbandhan demands ouster of ‘government of liars’
At a joint SP-BSP-RLD rally with Akhilesh Yadav in Azamgarh, Mayawati said that the alliance’s prospects will improve over the next two phases of the Lok Sabha polls. She said ever since the ‘mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) was formed, “BJP leaders have lost their sleep”.
She also dubbed the BJP and Congress as two sides of the same coin. “Unkey achchey din ladd gaye (Modi’s good days are over) and bad days are staring at his face,” she said.

CPM and Congress had alleged large-scale rigging in the constituency during the Lok Sabha polls held on 11 April. While the Congress expressed dissatisfaction with the order not ordering repolls in the entire constituency, the CPM said many voters who could not cast their ballot due to the alleged rigging will be deprived of their right.
Additional paramilitary contingents have started arriving in the state for deployment during the re-poll exercise and webcams will be set up at all polling booths.

PM asks BJP workers to spread word of abuses he is being subject to by Congress ‘on social media’
At his Kurukshetra rally, not only did Narendra Modi recite an ostensible list of abuses he has allegedly received from Congress leaders, but he ended the list with the announcement that even though he never gets emotional on stage, this time he had to because he has “returned home.” He then said that he was unsure as to how his words would be interpreted by media, “because Congress has held sway over most media” and thus urged the attendees of his rally to spread the word on the insults he was being subject to, on social media.

PM blames Congress for keeping Samjhauta innocent jailed, questions ‘dictionary of love’
Speaking at Kurukshetra, prime minister Narendra Modi said Congress had coined the term ‘Hindu terror’ after the Samjhauta Express blast and “kept the innocent in jail.”
Modi also said that the Congress’s ethos of “love” was a false one and questioned the party’s “dictionary of love.” He then listed what he believed was a list of the many insults that have apparently been hurled at him by the party’s leaders. “They have called me a resident of the gutter, a rat, a monkey, Hitler, death merchant and so on,” Modi said.

PM says mahamilavat comprises people who insult Ramayan, Mahabharat all day
Speaking at his second rally of the day, at Haryana’s Kurukshetra, began by slamming the grand alliance (which he has grown to call the ‘mahamilavat’) as a group of parties who ‘insult the Ramayan and Mahabharat all day.’ He traipsed through favoured tropes of Congress’s indifference to national security and said while the rest of India was proud at Abhinandran Varthaman’s return, Congress had instead called for a Nobel for Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan, for returning the prisoner of war.

A day after he set the ball rolling by calling Narendra Modi a ‘modern-day Aurangzeb’ who destroyed the temples of Varanasi, Sanjay Nirupam stepped up the charge by tweeting that the very temples of Varanasi which Ahilyabai Holkar had built were taken down by Modi. “The head priest of the Kashi Vishwanath temple has said that the court has stayed the whole plan (of Modi’s).
