It's a big day for Mumbaikars. Not only is it the big election day but it's also cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's birthday.
And although Tendulkar has appealed to all Indians to exercise their franchise in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, it seems Twitterarti is more inclined on wishing their cricketing icon happy birthday on Twitter than talk about the elections on the micro-blogging site.
On Twitter, #HappyBirthdaySachin is the top trend whereas #Elections2014 is the fourth trend. #Mumbai comes next.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Tendulkar - now a nominated Rajya Sabha member - urged his countrymen not to "underestimate" the power of their vote. "Every run counts in the game of cricket and every vote counts in an election. Don't underestimate the power of your vote," he said.
However, on Twitter at least, Mumbai seems more bent on raising a toast to the 'God of cricket's' birthday than discuss their voting stories.
Here are the graphs showing you how many people are talking about the hashtags:
Only eight percent voters have reportedly exercised their franchise in Mumbai up to 9 am. In 2009, Mumbai had the least voter turnout in its history. With a mere 41.4 percent turnout, it was below any other metropolitan city in India. Given the high voter turnout across the country, there's hope that more Mumbaikars will cast vote this year. At least, we hope Twitter is not a reflection of it.
