MP: Digvijaya demands CBI probe into MBBS admissions

New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday sought to turn the alleged irregularities in admission of 700 medical students in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh into a major issue by daring Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to hold a CBI inquiry into the matter. PTI[/caption] In a letter to Chouhan, he claimed that there was a link to the Chief Minister’s residence in the entire episode. Singh said that if the call records of the Director of the Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) of the state was examined, it will be found that “several calls” were made to the Chief Minister’s residence during the test. Alleging “massive corruption” in the recruitment exam for non-gazetted administratives services earlier, the Congress General Secretary regretted that the same board has been entrusted with the responsibility to make appointments in other departments as well. He demanded that “fraudulent” admissions in MBBS course be scrapped and those, who are in the waiting list, should be accommodated. Singh said that the issue of similar fraudulent admissions in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh had been referred to CBI by the state government. Congress is making a determined bid to return to power in Madhya Pradesh where BJP has been ruling for the last ten years. The state is scheduled to go to polls on 25 November. PTI
