Monsoon Session of Parliament: Congress to bring up issues of mob lynching, agrarian crisis

New Delhi: Ahead of Parliament’s monsoon session that begins on Monday, the Congress on Sunday said it would seek answers from the government over an ongoing border stand-off with China, the worsening situation in Kashmir and mob lynching incidents in the name of cow. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said the situation on the border with China in the Sikkim sector is very tense even as he blamed Beijing for the boundary stand-off. It is a matter of country’s security and we will raise it in Parliament,” Azad told reporters after an all-party meeting convened by the government at Parliament Library building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the meet which was boycotted by the Trinamool Congress. Azad said security situation was at its “worst” in Kashmir where the government has closed all the doors for talks to end the current logjam. “All the roads for talks have been closed by the government. Even ventilator is not open. There is political suffocation in Kashmir,” the Congress leader said. “We will also raise the issues related to mob lynching, agrarian crisis in view of farmer suicides.” Azad said the Congress was not in favour of stalling the proceedings of the house but asked the government to come forward and allow the issues for discussion.
