MHA sends proposal to Finmin for recruitement of 2,508 women cops

New Delhi: Taking the appointment of women officials in police on fast track, Home Ministry has sent a proposal to Finance Ministry for immediate clearance for recruitment of 2,508 women police personnel. Two women sub-inspectors and 10 women constables will be posted in each of the 166 police stations in the national capital, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here after a day-long meeting of country’s top bureaucrats and state police chiefs. AFP[/caption] “We have sent a proposal for recruitment of 2,508 police personnel to Finance Ministry for clearance out of which 418 are inspectors,” Shinde said. The move comes in the aftermath of the gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl here on December 16. The girl later died in a Singapore hospital on December 29. A special drive for recruiting women constables and officers and appointing more women personnel in police stations will also be undertaken soon to instill confidence among women. “I have signed the file and sent it to the Finance Ministry,” he said. Delhi has 166 police stations and police strength of around 83,000 personnel of which nearly 6,000 are women. PTI
