Noted activist and convenor of the National Alliance of People’s Movements Medha Patkar could be among the latest to join the Aam Aadmi Party, with a joint press conference of the Narmada Bachao Aandolan and the AAP scheduled for later today. [caption id=“attachment_1240729” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Social activist Medha Patkar.[/caption] While Patkar, 59, had earlier “responded positively” to overtures from the AAP, she had miantained that she would announce her decision on whether to formally join the party by January 15. A press release from the AAP Media Cell said the oustees of the Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Indira Sagar, Maan and Upper Beda dams in the Narmada Valley have decided to extend their full support to the Aam Aadmi Party. “There has been a continuous dialogue between people’s organisations and the AAP since its inception. As the AAP has emerged as a very significant political alternative for the ordinary people of this country, many organisations have expressed their interest in supporting AAP. The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has now taken a decision in this matter,” the release said. Patkar reportedly consulted with AAP leader Yogendra Yadav about the move. A meeting of the NAPM was held in Mumbai on Sunday. Patkar has earlier said that she believes this is the time for people within social movements to “make a strong political intervention”.
