Zeeshan Ali Khan, the 22-year-old MBA graduate who was denied a job by a diamond export company in Mumbai because of his religion, has finally accepted a job with the Gautam Adani Group. Khan received 12 other job offers after he was denied a marketing job by Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd.However, he rejected them all since he wanted to get a job on the basis of merit and not sympathy. The Times of India today reported that Khan, who will join Adani’s Mumbai office as an executive trainee, decided to pick this particular company because it is one of the biggest integrated infrastructure companies in the country. We found Zeeshan a competent candidate and hence a job was offered,” an Adani spokesperson was quoted by TOI as saying. The MBA graduate had applied for an opening in Hari Krishna Exports on 19 May. According to him, he had received a response within 15 minutes which had said they hired only non-Muslim candidates. “Thanks for your application. We regret to inform you that we hire only non-Muslim candidates,” the company had said in response to his application. Zeeshan promptly did what people in such situations these days do: he posted the company’s reply on Facebook sparking widespread criticism of the company. “At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting foreign countries and inviting them for investment and pushing ahead the ‘Make in India’ campaign, the leading export houses are rejecting candidates for their religion,” he said. Ironically, Adani who is considered a close confidante of PM Modi, was also the

most traveled CEO to accompany Modi in the past year, thereby emerging as  he most prominent face of India Inc. In fact, Adani’s wealth has more than   quadrupled since Modi announced his candidacy in September 2013.
