Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Guwahati to seek re-election to the upper house of Parliament for the fifth successive time from the state.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Guwahati to seek re-election to the upper house of Parliament for the fifth successive time from the state.

Singh, was accompanied by Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh. The elections are scheduled to be held on 30 May, while the Prime Minister’s present term ends on 14 June.

Singh, who has held this seat since 1991, is now expected to address Congress and Bodo People’s Front.

In Assam, notification was issued on Tuesday to hold elections to two Rajya Sabha seats. According to official sources, 20 May is the last date to file nominations and the scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day.

Singh was earlier re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state in 1995, 2001 and 2007.
