Maharashtra will have a BJP chief minister, says Devendra Fadnavis

With BJP set to emerge as the single-largest party in Maharashtra assembly polls, its state president Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the next chief minister will be from the party.

Mumbai: With BJP set to emerge as the single-largest party in Maharashtra assembly polls, its state president Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the next chief minister will be from the party. “BJP will form the next government in Maharashtra. There will be a BJP chief minister,” Fadnavis, a frontrunner for the post, told reporters. [caption id=“attachment_1763859” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis. ](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/devendra-fadnavis3.jpg) Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis.[/caption] “Our parliamentary board will take a decision (on CM candidate),” he said, adding “we will provide a transparent government.” Maintaining that the people had placed great faith in BJP, he said, “The situation emerging now is that our tally will go up to over two-and-a-half times than our previous tally.” BJP had won 46 seats in 2009 polls. Results were declared in six constituencies out of the total 15 in Nashik district. The Sinnar seat was won by Parag (Rajabhau) Prakash Waje of Shiv Sena, who polled 1,04,031 votes and won over his nearest BJP rival. In Devlali, Shiv Sena’s Yogesh Babanrao Gholap won the seat by a margin of 28,171 over BJP nominee. Shiv Sena’s Dadaji Bhuse won the Malegaon (Outer) seat by securing 82,093 votes, winning by 37,421 votes. Malegaon (Central) seat was retained by Congress’s Sheikh Asif Sheikh Rashid who polled 71,731 votes. The Baglan seat was won by NCP’s Dipika Sanjay Chavan by a close margin of 4,181 votes. In Raigad’s Alibaug constituency, Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) candidate Subhash alias Pandit Patil defeated his nearest rival Mahendra Dalvi of Shiv Sena by over 12,000 votes. Bharat Gogavale of Shiv Sena won the Mahad seat in Raigad by defeating Congress’ Manik Jagtap by over 19,000 votes. The Parvati constituency in Pune was retained by sitting BJP MLA Madhuri Misal who defeated Shiv Sena’s Sachin Tawre by 69,090 votes. BJP’s Dilip Kamble won the Pune cantonment seat by defeating sitting Congress MLA Ramesh Bagwe by 14,955 votes. PTI
