Just before filing his nomination in the temple town of Varanasi, BJP prime ministerial Narendra Modi today invoked Maa Ganga and said that he was being called by the sacred river to serve the people on her banks.
"I'm grateful for the love people from Kashi have shown me. I respect the culture of this place. Initially I thought BJP sent me here, but after coming here I have realised that none has sent me here nor have I come here. Maa Ganga has drawn me here and like a child I have come back to Ganga's lap. I have received the good fortune of working for this holy ground. I hope mother Ganga will bless me. I will support the poor and will ensure Kashi becomes the spiritual capital," said Modi before entering the premises of the collector's office in Varanasi.
The BJP prime ministerial candidate was accompanied by his trusted lieutenant and BJP's Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ravi Shankar Prasad while BJP workers in thousands painted the town saffron, making a much bigger impact than his prominent rivals AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and Congress' Ajay Rai.
