LS, RS adjourned again, this time over Mumbai violence

New Delhi: The issue of violence in Mumbai over Assam riots stalled proceedings in the Lok Sabha for the second consecutive day today as opposition members stormed the Well demanding dismissal of Maharashtra government, leading to adjournment of the House till noon. As soon as the House met, Shiv Sena and BJP members from Maharashtra trooped into the Well demanding dismissal of the Maharashtra government and a statement from Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. Members of Left parties were also in the Well and waved placards to seek universalisation of public distribution system. ‘No Priority. No General. We demand universalisation of public distribution system’ read a placard in the hand of CPI(M) member Bansa Gopal Chowdhury. Speaker Meira Kumar tried to take up the Question Hour, but as opposition members were unrelenting she adjourned the House till noon. Yesterday the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after uproar over violence in Mumbai over Assam riots. In Rajya Sabha, opposition BJP and Shiv Sena members raised the Mumbai violence issue the moment Chairman Hamid Ansari took his seat. They, however, relented for a short while to enable the House to mourn the death of 250 people in twin earthquakes in Iran. Soon after, they stood up and displayed photographs of Mumbai violence and did not heed to Ansari’s plea to members not to display posters or  photographs. “There will be a discussion on this… we will take up the subject later. It has been decided in the morning (at a meeting with leaders of political parties). We are taking it up today,” Ansari said. After the Chair’s assurance that the issue would be taken up at 1 PM, order was restored. PTI
