10.40 am: Rahul kicks off Gujarat tour

Starting his two-day Gujarat tour from Sabarmati Ashram the day after Gandhi Jayanti, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is finally taking the 2014 battle right into Narendra Modi’s turf. The interactions with party workers and students’ union activists of the Congress party will be Rahul’s first public interactions since his outburst regarding the UPA government’s ordinance on protecting convicted politicians.

Rahul will be in Ahmedabad today where he will address a meeting of the national council of the NSUI, the party’s students’ wing. He will be in Rajkot tomorrow, the erstwhile constituency of the Gujarat chief minister.

The objective of the visit appears to be to galvanise the Congress party ahead of the 2014 general elections, with meetings scheduled between the Congress scion and elected representatives ranging from Members of Parliament to village-level representatives.

But how effective will Rahul be? There is predictably some skepticism on Twitter!
