The lawyers for the accused in the 2G scam have sought to discredit CBI witness Achary, saying he was tutored.

2.30pm: Key prosecution witness Achary tells the court that he is diabetic and is tired now. Court is adjourned till tomorrow.

1.20pm: The defence team have alleged that the the statement that key prosecution witness Achary had made to the CBI had actually been formulated by the investigating agency days before it was recorded. They have told the court that Achary was made to accept the statement under threat by the CBI who had told him that he would be arrested like Chandolia if he did not accept. Achary has denied the claim.

12.50pm: The defence lawyer for former telecom secretary Siddarth Behura has resumed the defence attack on key prosecution witness Aseervatham Achary. The defence are contending that Achary is a tutored witness, and have been comparing his statements in court with those he had made to the CBI earlier. They have now told the court that some of the statements he is making inside the court premises, are completely missing from his initial statements, and this means he may have been told what to say in court. Achary denies the charge, saying that he may have ‘forgotten’ to tell the CBI some facts at the time of the initial recording. The defence however have said that all of Achary’s statements in court thus far have been ‘improvements’ of his earlier statements.

12.20pm: Raja’s lawyer Sushil Kumar has told the court that CBI witness Achary is a ‘manufactured’ witness, and was only made a witness because the CBI could not find any other way to link Raja to the other accused in the 2G scam. Achary denies the claim, and Kumar concludes his questioning. The defense lawyer for former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura has now begun questioning Achary.

12.00 noon: Achary is being cross examined about statements he made in court on 19 December during the cross examination by the CBI counsel and has started comparing it to his initial CBI statement. Achary tells the court he needs protection from the defence for twisting his words. Court takes ten minute recess.

11.45am: The defence team for Raja tells the special CBI court that Achary is a tutored witness. The CBI counsel calls it a wild allegation.

11.32am: Defence team for Raja, shows CBI special witness Achary a book written by Subramanian Swamy on the 2G spectrum scam. Achary denies knowledge of references that have been made to him in the book.

11.15am: Lawyer for A Raja, Sushil Kumar has alleged that CBI witness Achary “broke” the story of the 2G scam to the Pioneer newspaper, because Raja had not supported his political ambitions of joining the Congress party. The defence team has also alleged that Achary became a CBI mole in the telecom ministry as early as October 2009, which was months before he was actually called in for questioning by the agency. Achary has denied the charges.

**10.40am:**Former telecom Minister A Raja’s defence team has resumed its cross examination of key prosecution witness Aseervatham Archary in the 2G trial case.

10.30am: The 2G spectrum trial got underway at a special CBI court on Monday, following the winter break. The key prosecution witness Aseervatham Achary will continue to depose, and is currently being cross examined by Raja’s lawyer, Sushil Kumar.

Before the court broke for holidays, Achary testified that Raja was close to co-accused Kanimozhi, and also knew Sanjay Chandra, Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka from when he was the minister for environment.

He also told the court he was being threatened by accused in the case. Raja and the other accused have alleged that Achary is a motivated witness with political ambitions of his own
