Live: After Jolly incident Shoma Chaudhury gets security cover

10.00 pm: Shoma Chaudhury gets security cover Former Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury was today provided with a security cover after a group of BJP workers led by Vijay Jolly allegedly heckled her and defaced the nameplate outside her residence here. On what kind of security was extended to Chaudhury, a senior Delhi Police official said, “The security apparatus cannot be revealed. She would be provided adequate security to prevent recurrence of such an event.” 6.16 pm: After Jolly incident Shoma Chaudhury seeks police protection After BJP MLA Vijay Jolly along with other workers of the party vandalised her property, Shoma Chaudhury has asked for police protection. 18.00 pm: Case registered against Vijay Jolly for vandalising property A case has been registered against BJP MLA Vijay Jolly has been registered for vandalising Shoma Chaudhary’s property. Time Now reports that Jolly will be charged with trespassing and vandalism. The news channel also said that the Delhi police is now conducting a meeting to discuss what the action against Jolly will be. 5.22 pm: As a citizen I had right to protest, says Vijay Jolly BJP MLA Vijay Jolly tells CNN-IBN that as a citizen he had the right to protest outside Shoma Chaudhury’s house. “Name and fame has always followed me for my dictum,” Jolly tells CNN-IBN. An unapologetic jolly who refused to accept his  fault said, “I have not violated anyone’s space. I have no anger against Tejpal or Shoma. But I have the anger seething in me.” In fact he accused Shoma Chaudhury of being an accomplice in the crime. “You are making a villain out of a non-issue,” Jolly accused the TV channel, adding, “Number one, I have not taken the law into the hand. I am taking the side of the ‘piddit’ girl.” 4.30 pm: Sushma condemned Jolly antics to influence evening headlines: Cong While the BJP has slammed Vijay Jolly’s actions outside Shoma Chaudhury’s house, the Congress has said that was to only influence evening headlines. “Sushma Swaraj’s public rebuke to Vijay Jolly is more to influence evening debate headline than a genuine chiding. Manipulating the media,” Sanjay Jha said. 4.09 pm: Sheila Dikshit says no one should take law in their hands New Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit today in an interview to CNN-IBN said, “All I want to say is that no one should take law in their own hands.” 4.06 pm: Gadkari says action will be taken against Jolly Condemning Vijay Jolly’s protests outside Shoma Chaudhury’s house Nitin Gadkari said action will be taken against him. “The party will speak to him and take necessary action,” Gakari said. 3.50 pm: BJP condemns Vijay Jolly’s antics The BJP has come out in criticism of its Delhi MLA Vijay Jolly’s antic outside former Tehelka editor Shoma Chaudhary’s house. “I completely condemn Jolly’s behaviour,” Opposition Leader Sushma Swaraj said in a press conference. “The party has nothing to do with this. He had mentioned it to me and Arunji, we had refused to go. Still he went ahead,” she said. [caption id=“attachment_1255575” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Vijay Jolly. Jolly who first was content shouting slogans outside the journalist’s house later used black paint to painstakingly paint on the name plate outside Chaudhury’s residence. When Chaudhury emerged from her house to leave for office he also attempted to block her and had to be restrained and taken away by the police. Jolly, however, justified all his actions claiming that it was a natural spill over of the people’s anger. “The anger of people was bound to spill over,” Jolly told CNN-IBN. We were there demonstrating there since morning, he said. Jolly even continued to defend the entire demonstration saying it was a peaceful demonstration and said that they hadn’t damaged her car which proved they were not guilty of vandalism.
