10.00 pm: Shoma Chaudhury gets security cover Former Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury was today provided with a security cover after a group of BJP workers led by Vijay Jolly allegedly heckled her and defaced the nameplate outside her residence here. On what kind of security was extended to Chaudhury, a senior Delhi Police official said, “The security apparatus cannot be revealed. But I have the anger seething in me.” In fact he accused Shoma Chaudhury of being an accomplice in the crime. “You are making a villain out of a non-issue,” Jolly accused the TV channel, adding, “Number one, I have not taken the law into the hand. Jolly who first was content shouting slogans outside the journalist’s house later used black paint to painstakingly paint on the name plate outside Chaudhury’s residence. When Chaudhury emerged from her house to leave for office he also attempted to block her and had to be restrained and taken away by the police. Jolly, however, justified all his actions claiming that it was a natural spill over of the people’s anger. “The anger of people was bound to spill over,” Jolly told CNN-IBN. We were there demonstrating there since morning, he said. Jolly even continued to defend the entire demonstration saying it was a peaceful demonstration and said that they hadn’t damaged her car which proved they were not guilty of vandalism.
