Jayalalithaa to start 15-day election campaign on 9 April

Chennai: AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will kickstart her 15-day tour of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 9 April for the Assembly polls by addressing a rally in her RK Nagar constituency. While the chief minister would campaign for 14 non-consecutive days in Tamil Nadu between 9 April and 12 May, she would wind up the Puducherry leg of her tour in one day on 25 April, a party release said. Jayalalithaa would begin her campaign on 9 April in RK Nagar by addressing a rally. On 11 April, she would be in Virudhachalam in flood-hit Cuddalore district. On 13 April, she will address a public meeting in Dharmapuri and on 15 April, she will be in Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district. On 18 April, she will campaign in Kanchipuram, and on 20 April in Salem. Similarly, the chief minister would be in Tiruchirapalli (23 April), Madurai (27 April) and Coimbatore (1 May). On 3 May, she will address a rally in Villupuram, where actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth’s constituency Rishivandiyam (he represented in 14th Assembly) falls. On 5 May, she will address a rally at Perundurai in Erode district, from where she would leave for Thanjavur on 8 May and cover Tirunelveli on 10 May. Her campaign will conclude in Vellore on 10 May. Party sources indicated this was the broad itinerary and she would also address the electorate at several other places. Though there was a brief lull recently, AIADMK has already been conducting public meetings and street-corner meetings in view of the 16 May election.
