Jayalalithaa cardiac arrest: From Kejriwal to Lalu, politicians pray for Tamil Nadu CM's recovery

Soon after Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa was reported to be critical due to a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening, politicians across the country have and continue to pour in their prayers for the 68-year-old AIADMK chief on Twitter.

Jayalalithaa was on extracorporeal membrane heart assist device and is being treated by a team of expert doctors and critical care specialists in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai where she was admitted over two months ago.

Updates about the chief minister's treatment were given early this morning by Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, Sangita Reddy and head of transformation of Apollo Hospital Dr Subbaiah Viswanathan yesterday.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the state as the AIADMK chief undergoes treatment.

From President Pranab Mukherjee to Mamata Banarjee, Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal among others, leaders have expressed concern over Jayalalithaa's health.

Chess champion Viswanathan Anand among others tweeted for the minister's speedy recovery.

Jayalalithaa's cardiac arrest alert had come only few hours after AIADMK had said that Amma (as Jayalalithaa is fondly called) will return home "soon" as an Aiims expert team has confirmed that she has completely recovered after over two months of hospitalisation.

Jayalalithaa was hospitalised on 22 September after she complained of fever and dehydration.
