In trouble, Pak PM faults the whole world

Under harsh glare of the international community after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist, on its soil by the US Navy Seals, Pakistan on Wednesday  put up a rather bizarre defence, claiming that the ignorance on the Al Qaeda leader’s presence at Abbottabad was an intelligence failure of the “whole world, not of Pakistan alone’’. Replying to reporters’ queries in France, Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said his country shared intelligence with the entire world, including the US. If there were lapses in Pakistan “that means lapses from the whole world”. ``Pakistan is a part of the solution and not a part of the problem,” he added. Curious indeed! [caption id=“attachment_4337” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Martin Bureau/AFP Photo”]  [/caption] An embarrassed Islamabad has been evading direct answers on Osama’s presence close to a military establishment for the last three days. The extent of its duplicity will be clear once US officials scan the documents recovered from Osama’s Abbottabad home. American troops are believed to have laid their hands on a treasure trove of intelligence, which according to a US media report, is the “largest potential intelligence coup of the post-9/11 era.” Till that happens, the international community will have to contend with Islamabad’s face-savers. Interestingly, it now transpires that Osama was prepared to flee at short notice. Cash totalling 500 Euros and two telephone numbers were found sewn into his clothing. From a person used to shifting locations it does not come as a surprise. However, one crucial factor missing here was the lack of a tip-off from `friends’ in Pakistan before the US operation. Intelligence failure on the other side? The seized documents better throw light on it.
