In a first, Chhattisgarh 'others' category gets a chance to vote

Chhattisgarh for the first time will have eunuchs enrolled as voters in the forthcoming tw0-phase elections on 11 and 19 November. “While eunuchs, until last elections, were placed in either male or female category, depending on their outfit, from this election, they have been granted a separate category ‘others’. However, the news doesn’t come as good one to the transgender and eunuch community in Chhattisgarh as they sound dissatisfied with the decision, saying that the category be renamed ’transgender/kinnars’"— the Times of India reported.[caption id=“attachment_1189481” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Poll time. Reuters[/caption] As per data available, Chhattisgarh has over 5,000 eunuchs and transgenders. However, with constituencies like Dantewada, Rajim, Navagarh, Rampur, Dharsiva, having just 1, 1, 5, 2, and 7 voters from ‘others’ category, the total number of voters in this category would be below 1,500. The counting of votes is scheduled for 8 December.
