Haven't quit yet, says Bengal governor MK Narayanan

After Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan stood up to the Modi government saying that he will resign from his post only if he is asked to do so by ‘appropriate authority’, West Bengal governor MK Narayanan also seems to be holding fort against the Centre till today. He told Times Now that he has not quit yet and refused to divulge if he plans to. Narayanan was one of the seven governors that the BJP government wanted to be removed. BJP President and Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also said that he would have resigned had he been in their place, putting pressure on the UPA-appointed governors to quit. Agencies.[/caption] “No post is permanent in a democracy. If a person having appropriate authority calls me (asking to quit), then I will certainly think over it,” Raj Bhavan sources quoted the 82-year-old Sankaranarayanan as saying earlier in the day. At least three - Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj and Assam Governor JB Patnaik - have resigned from their posts on Tuesday. Given Mamata Banerjee’s hostile stand against Prime Minister Modi, despite the olive branch he extended towards her, one can expect that Narayanan wouldn’t quit easily. Soon after reports about BJP government’s hostility towards the government trickled in, Mamata Banerjee visited the state’s governor. Narayanan has mostly backed Banerjee during times of political turmoil and is not know to have too many problems with the state government. However, since the state has not much say in the removal of a governor, one can expect Banerjee to be of moral support to Narayanan, is at all.
