Has the Delhi police botched up the Kanda probe?

Is the Delhi police steadily losing its grip in the investigations against former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda? After getting custody of the former minister in connection with the suicide of former employee Geetika Sharma, the police yesterday attempted and failed to get further custody of the minister’s aide Aruna Chaddha. The court while refusing custody of Chaddha to the police had noted that the investigating agency had been unable to find any new evidence of her involvement in Sharma’s suicide on 4 August. PTI[/caption] This latest setback came even as the police told the court they wanted to confront Chaddha with Kanda during interrogations and admitted that the former minister had refused to assist them in any way in the  investigations. The court also criticised the police for publicising Sharma’s post mortem report. “It has come to the notice of this court that the findings of the postmortem report of deceased Geetika Sharma, which was very personal in nature, has been published by the media despite stated to be in a sealed cover by the IO,” the court told the prosecution. “Such type of publication interferes in administration of justice. Therefore, I direct the Joint Commissioner of Police (northern range) to ensure that in future any such type of report does not leak to anyone,” it said. The Joint Commissioner has been told to submit his report to the court within seven days. The police had earlier been accused of going slow on tracking down the MLA, who was absconding for close to a fortnight. Kanda has also been accused of destroying evidence against him. However, the police has said they have found  “a bunch of documents recovered from MDLR office showed that a company by the name of ‘Aromafoods’ was opened in the name of Chaddha and her father and the same was later rechristened AKG, referring to Aruna, Geetika and another employee named Khushboo.”
