Haryana election result live: It's over, says Congress and wishes luck to BJP

8.10 pm: Haryana Assembly Election: Final Figures  Final figures from polling in Haryana today: 12.51 pm: I wish the new government well, says Bhupinder Singh Hooda  Though he won himself, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda conceded defeat in the state polls. He wished the new government luck. “Congratulate those who have won and wish the new govt all the best,” he said, adding, “Am confident that the progress rate that Haryana is on, will not drop." 11.30 am: Bhupinder Singh Hooda to address press conference shortly to concede defeat Apprehending a crushing defeat from the leads themselves, former Congress chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has decided to hold a press conference to concede defeat. When the exit polls had predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP, Hooda was adamant in asserting that there was no anti-incumbency in Haryana. However, the lead trends, which have given a clear majority to BJP must have convinced Hooda to come out and accept defeat. Looks like the party won’t even wait till the final seat tally is out to declare that they have lost. One can’t blame the party though. According to trends on NDTV, the latest numbers suggest that the Congress will get around 12 seats, down from the 40 seats it had won in 2009! BJP is leading in 50 seats and even INLD is ahead of the party with leads in 19 seats. The former CM, however, has won from his constituency. 11.01 am: Haryana gets its first winner and it’s BJP candidate Anil Vij! Three hours into the counting and the first winner was declared in Haryana. BJP’s sitting MLA from Ambala Cantt., Anil Vij defeated Congress rival Nirmal Singh by 15,444 votes to register the first win for the party in the present assembly polls. Anil Vij had defeated Nirmal Singh in the 2009 elections as well. Gyanchand Gupta of the BJP won the Panchlula seat. Meanwhile two the four top Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidates- Naina Chautala from Dabwali and Ashok Arora from Thanesar were trailing behind their respective BJP rivals. The BJP, leading in 48 constituencies looks certain to form the government. Haryana BJP party incharge Kailash Vijayvargiya said they will win the elections with a comfortable majority. The Congress remained third, leading on just 14 seats, while the INLD was ahead on 23 seats so far. HJC’s Kuldeep Bishnoi and his wife Renuka Bishnoi were training in Adampur and Hansi. 10.40 am: Absolute majority for BJP in latest tally Though the INLD and the Congress fought endlessly prior to the polls, it seems that the BJP, which had trained its guns on both, seems to having the last laugh. The latest tally according to NDTV is as follows: BJP — 49; INLD — 20; Congress — 15 However, the INLD, which seems to be ahead of the Congress will possibly have some fodder for criticism against the Congress, though it isn’t winning. The Congress is set to be the biggest loser and is set to lose 25 seats it had previously held. However, Congress bigwigs Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Garha Simpla Kiloi), Randeep Surjewala (Kaithal) and Kiran Chaudhry (Tosham) are leading in their constituencies. 10.20 am: Abhay Chautala, son of jailed INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala leads in Ellenabad Some parts of Haryana, obviously, don’t seem to have too much of a grouse against corruption. Abhay Chautala, son of Om Prakash Chautala jailed on corruption charges, seem to be leading in his constituency Ellenabad. His brother Ajay and father are both in jail and he himself faces serious charges. However, as Haryana Tweets notes, the race is very close with Abhay just ahead of BJP by some 100 votes, leaving enough space for the latter to catch up.

#Haryana: So far neck to neck fight in Ellenabad, Abhay Chautala leading by 104 votes. Abhay-9171, BJP-9067, Cong 2556

Yogendra Yadav, speaking to NDTV, had said that this election will be crucial for the INLD. He pointed out, given the tradition of political intervention in CBI investigations in India, if INLD wins its crucial seats at least, the Chautala family will try batting away the cases agaisnt them. However, from the looks of it, that is going to be a distant dream for the Chautalas. Om Prakash Chautala’s grandson and Ajay Chautala’s son, Dushyant Singh Chautala is leading ahead of BJP in his constituency Uchana in Haryana. The BJP has fielded Premlata Singh, wife of Chaudhary Birender Singh from the constituency. Birender Singh, a former Congress leader, joined BJP very recently. DNA reported: “In 2009, Chaudhary Birender Singh, grandson of Chaudhary Chhotu Ram, one of the founders of Haryana, had lost this seat to INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala by a meager 629 votes. Chaudhary at that time had accused both Hooda and Chautala of foul play.” Therefore, the fight between Dushyant Chautala and Premlata is being closely watched as one that involves a clash of big egoes!

Latest @ Uchana after 21.47% counting: INLD candidate @Dchautala leading over BJP's Birender Singh wife by 762 votes. #Haryana

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

However, things aren’t looking so bright for Dushaynt’s mother. Ajay Chautala’s wife, who is fighting the polls in Haryana is said to be trailing behind Congress by a sizable margin.

After 30.54% Counting in Dabwali #Haryana: Ajay #Chautala wife trailing to Cong by 2375 Votes. Cong-18666, INLD-16291, BJP-11212 !

10.02 am: Guess who is leading in Haryana? Hint: he spent most of last year in jail! Yes, the answer in Gopal Kanda! Kanda, who has been implicated in the suicide of young air-hostess Geetika Sharma, spent a better half of the last year in jail. He has been accused of abetting Geetika, his former employee, to suicide. Kanda had formed his own party and was fighting as its representative. Kanda was absconding for a long time before he surrendered. His was denied bail in the case several times. He was finally granted bail in March this year. However, his run-in with the law doesn’t seem to have perturbed Haryana’s voters as his constituency seems to be rallying behind him as of now! Now, that’s a face-palm moment for the state for sure! 9.48 am: BJP gets rousing thumbs up from voters, with leads in more than 45 seats The early trends have showed that voters have hailed the BJP in Haryana with its leads whooshing past the halfway mark within two hours of counting beginning. [caption id=“attachment_1763373” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Captain Abhimanyu. Screengrab from YouTube. ](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/abhimanyu2.jpg) Captain Abhimanyu. Screengrab from YouTube.[/caption] That would mean that the BJP is all set to definitively end Congress’ dominance of Haryana, which it held for ten years now. Lead tally: BJP — 49; INLD — 18; Congress — 14 9.25 am: Captain Abhimanyu leads, Savitri Jindal of Congress trails  Captain Abhimanyu, touted as BJP’s CM candidate in Haryana is leading in his constituency Narnaund. Savitri Jindal, considered India’s richest woman, also the mother of Congress MP Naveen Jindal, is trailing in her hometown Hisar. Jindal is worth worth $14.4 billion she also is the world’s 56th richest person, according to Wikipedia. That should come as a shock to Congress as Hisar is traditionally their stronghold and early reports suggested that voters are in the mood to back Jindal as their chosen MLA. And IBN Live report from five days ago quoted several residents of Hisar hailing Jindal’s work for the constituency and declaring her the winner, though way too prematurely. The report, in fact, said that BJP Kamal Gupta was hardly as popular because of how unapproachable he was. However, if the early trends don’t change soon, it will be evident that Jindal’s sociable nature hardly worked for her this time. Latest lead tally: BJP — 43, INLD — 16, Congress — 15 9.oo am: Lead tally at 9 am BJP — 38, Congress — 13, INLD — 11 (Source: NDTV) 8.46 am: With the leads, it become clear that Congress is looking at a wipe-out in Haryana The latest trends as revealed by NDTV are as follows: BJP — 26; Congress — 10, INLD — 9 It has now become clear that the BJP is set to sweep Haryana, leaving Congress with just bits and pieces for seats. Most exit polls results (wrap below) had suggested that BJP will be the single largest party in Haryana, with some going on to predict that the party might even get absolute majority in the state. From the looks of it, the BJP is set to prove those polls true by clinching an absolute majority. The BJP will need 46 seats in Haryana to get an absolute majority and the early leads suggest that it won’t be too difficult a task to achieve. 8. 30 am: Latest lead trends according to NDTV BJP — 16; INLD — 4; Congress — 3 8.12 am: First lead out; BJP leads in Ladwa The first lead in Haryana is out and it goes to the BJP. The party is leading in Ladwa, in Kurukshetra district in Haryana. Speaking to Prannoy Roy on NDTV, AAP’s Yogendra Yadav said, “Ladwa is a crucial seat for the INLD. From the conversations I have had with INLD workers, Ladwa is one of those 25 seats that the INLD is fervently hoping they will win.” Ladwa’s sitting MLA is from INLD, but the area falls under a Lok Sabha constituency won by the BJP in this year’s general elections. 8.03 am: Counting begins in Haryana as BJP’s Captain Abhimanyu says that BJP will end ‘aristocratic politics’ Counting has begun in Haryana and the first leads will be out soon. Speaking to Times Now, Captain Abhimanyu, BJP’s candidate and frontrunner in the CVM race said, “The families of Congress and INLD have ruled Haryana for 48 years now. However, BJP will end these parties’ aristocratic politics. Haryana will witness true democracy now, above caste and religion politics,” says Capt Abhimanyu. 7.55 am: AAP’s Yogendra Yadav points out BJP’s strategy Speaking to NDTV, AAP’s Yogendra Yadav said that the BJP’s strategy in Haryana was that of three Ms - media, muscle power and money. He also pointed out that BJP has not used muscle-power in the states so far and their using the same in Haryana is quite surprising. 7.16 am: Counting to begin shortly [caption id=“attachment_1762629” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Bhupinder Singh Hooda. AFP.](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/bhupinder-hoodaAFP1.jpg) Bhupinder Singh Hooda. AFP.[/caption] Counting in the Haryana assembly elections is set to begin at 8 am. Meanwhile, on social media, BJP has been predicting a big win for itself on social media. The Twitter handle for Haryana BJP tweeted the following out last evening. https://twitter.com/BJP4Haryana/status/523482649470308352 The Haryana Congress Twitter handle on the other hand, stayed away from such self congratulatory messages. The Aam Aadmi Party too has kept uncannily quiet on Haryana, at least on social media. 7.05 am: Exit polls result wrap 7.00 am: Will BJP oust Congress from stronghold Haryana too? The Congress, if pollsters and pundits are to be believed, is all set to face another round of election drubbing - the third time in a year - with the results of Haryana assembly polls set to be revealed today. The other state which went into polls and is likely to witness Comgress’ political downturn is Maharashtra. Haryana, like Maharashtra, has been a Congress stronghold for a while now. The present government, headed by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, however is facing a strong anti-incumbency wave and is most likely to face a rout by the BJP. Haryana witnessed a high voter turn-out this year, setting a record and sparking fears that the Congress is now headed for a definite defeat. PTI reports: “The state had created history by clocking an all-time high polling of about 76.54 per cent, surpassing maximum of 72.65 per cent in 1967 in the high-stakes battle among top contenders Congress, BJP and INLD in a multi-cornered contest. The fate of 1351 candidates, including 116 women – the highest number since the formation of the state in 1966, was sealed during the single day polling.” The voter turn-out in Haryana, pegged at 76.54 percent. Exit polls have showed that the BJP is set to wipe the Congress out from the state. Of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana, exit and opinion polls have predicted a sweep for the BJP. The Times Now C-voter poll has predicted 37 seats for the BJP in Haryana with the INLD close behind with 28. The Chanakya exit poll has better news for the BJP in Haryana, giving the party an outright majority in the state. This poll is a best case scenario for the party, given that everyone else is predicting a much closer fight in the state. Here are the Chanakya numbers for Haryana: BJP: 52 Seats, INLD+: 23 Seats, Congress: 10 Seats The ABP-Nielsen numbers are also in for the state, giving the party an outright majority. However these are for exit poll numbers based on data gathered at 3pm. They are as follows: BJP–46, Congress–10, INLD–29, HJC–2, Others–3 Who are the key players in BJP’s resurgence in the state? Apart from PM Modi, who had campaigned incisively in Haryana and had extensively talked about issues of corruption in the state even during the general elections, party president Amit Shah has reportedly been instrumental in making inroads for the BJP in the state. Apart from Shah, the Economic Times reports that national secretary of BJP, Dr Anil Jain, Shiv Prakash, joint general secretary and Ram Lal, BJP’s national organisation secretary have been instrumental in selecting candidates, organizing and managing rallies and training BJP cadres in the run-up to the polls. Do Haryana’s infamous Khaps have a role to play in these polls?  According to reports, yes. Ninety two Khaps from across Haryana have had a major role to play in shaping this year’s political narrative in Haryana. PTI reports: " Some of the major Khaps in Haryana include Nogama, Khera, Kandela, Meham Choubasia, Ghatwal and Satrol. These khaps have considerable influence in districts of Jhajjar, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Sonipat, Jind, Hisar, Kaithal, Gurgaon, Bhiwani and Mahendragarh. Noting their importance political parties too have tried to romp them in the electoral battle. Three major khap leaders from Haryana are in the fray in the elections. Head of Ghatwal khap Baljeet Malik has been fielded by the BJP from Baroda assembly seat.”
