With the NDA government urging the governors of UP, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and MP to quit, two governors resigned on Tuesday. BL Joshi of Uttar Pradesh and HR Bhardwaj of Karnataka have resigned, according to reports. Governor of Assam JB Patnaik dismissed reports saying he had also resigned. According to CNN-IBN which quoted government sources, all governors from the Congress could resign or get transferred if they refuse to resign. PTI[/caption] Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit has meanwhile, declined to comment on the reports. “I can’t react to rumours”, Dikshit said on the sidelines of a function here when mediapersons drew her attention to reports in this regard. Soon after this comment however, two UPA appointed governors stepped down from their posts. Media reports said that the resignations had come following meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A former chief minister of Delhi, Dikshit was appointed as Kerala Governor in March this year. Among the reactions to the sudden resignations of the governors, Sitaram Yechury told CNN-IBN, “We should not be tampering with the Governors, which is a constitutional post.” (With additional input from PTI)
