In a major embarrassment to the ruling National Conference party in Jammu and Kashmir, its leader and outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was defeated from the Sonawar Assembly constituency. However, media was left red-faced when Abdullah pointed out that he had won in Beerwah constituency, contrary to what some of the reports suggested. Omar Abdullah. AFP[/caption] The former J&K chief minister tweeted out that his victory is even sweeter now after all the gloating by media channels and Twitter over his premature defeat in Beerwah. Abdullah took a dig at one of the media channels and said:
Abdullah won in Beerwah assembly seat where he defeated his nearest Congress party rival Nazir Ahmad Khan by a narrow margin. According to PTI, he has defeated Khan by a margin of over 1000 votes. He then claimed his victory is sweeter now:
The former J&K chief minister also congratulated Ashraf Mir and wished him luck for the next 6 years.
Abdullah reportedly lost Sonwar constituency by more than 3000 votes. According to a report in Indian Express , Omar secured 7929 votes his rival got 12207, BJP candidate Darakshan Andrabi got 835 votes.
