Gautamiputra Satakarni featuring Nanadamuri Balakrishna, Shriya Saran and Hema Malini among others, looks nothing less than a magnum opus showcasing Balakrishna as Gautamiputra Satakarni, a ruler of the Satavahana empire during the 2nd century CE.
The trailer seems like the film is all set to join the Baahubali genre and become the next big action epic. Balakrishna is seen fighting and sweating his blood and tears for his mother land, with Shriya Saran and Hema Malini as the backbone. Shriya Saran is royal and beautiful while Hema Mailini seems to play the perfect powerful mother.
The epic war tale which is reported to be Balakrishna's 100th film, gives you glimpses of many such films from the past whose plots have revolved around historic emperors who have battled with invaders from foreign land with an army of people, horses, magnificent empires and larger than life sets - all ingredients of usual war tales.
According to The Hindu, Neeta Lulla, who has previously designed costumes for Bollywood films like Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar among others, has been working on the looks of the lead cast and is said to have researched about the Satavahana era for this project.
But having said that, though Krishna Jagarlamudi's film trailer gives us a feel that the movie might be well shot and set, while Balakrishna gives out his one liners one can't help but notice that age has now and finally caught up on the actor. It would be too early to criticise the casting, so whether the film will score among audience with the said ingredients and show better of Balakrishna or tank, is for us to wait and watch in 2017.
