[caption id=“attachment_1844785” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] MPs zooming into Priyanka Gandhi’s picture in Karnataka Assembly.[/caption] In a huge embarrassment to the BJP, a party MLA was caught surfing photographs on his cellphone during a serious debate in Karnataka assembly on sugarcane pricing on Wednesday. The photograph that he was zooming into was of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. “There was a slogan below the photo of Priyanka Gandhi, I was watching it. By mistake I took it the mobile phone inside. I agree it is my mistake, but I have seen nothing with bad intention. I was checking photos of national leaders. I checked Narendra Modi photo…. I also checked my son’s photos,” Chawan said. This is not the first time MLAs have been caught indulging in inappropriate behaviour in the assembly elections. Here’s a look at how our elected leaders shamed us: BJP MLA playing Candy Crush: [caption id=“attachment_1844779” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] Image used for representative purpose only.[/caption] During the Assembly Session in Karnataka, one of the BJP MLA was busy playing Candy Crush on his phone. BJP MLA, U B Banakar may have taken a leaf out of British MP Nigel Mills’ book. Recently, Mills was photographed playing candy Crush during a parliamentary committee meeting. Karnataka BJP MLAs watching porn: [caption id=“attachment_1844789” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] Image: ibnlive[/caption] Two Karnataka ministers were allegedly filmed watching porn on a cellphone in the Assembly in 2012. One of the ministers, Lakshman Savadi said the cellphone he used to view the content was not his. He also said the clip he watched “was of four people molesting a foreigner.” Gujarat BJP MLAs watch porn too: [caption id=“attachment_1844791” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] Image: ibnlive[/caption] After the Karnataka incident , two Gujarat BJP MLAs were caught watching porn on a tablet during the Gujarat Assembly in March 2012. The MLAs accused of watching porn were Shankarbhai Lagadhirbhai Chaudhary and Jethabhai Ghelabhai Ahir Bharwad from the BJP. A reporter from a local Gujarati newspaper is believed to have captured the duo watching porn on his cell phone. Chaudhary, however, denied allegations, saying that this was an attempt to malign his image. “The allegations of me watching porn in assembly is baseless. This is an attempt to politically malign me. The assembly proceedings are recorded in CCTV. I request the Opposition to check the CCTV footage. All the allegations against me are baseless. I am not the person who watches porn at all.” MNS MLAs assault SP leader for taking oath in Hindi: [caption id=“attachment_1844797” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] Image from TV screen grab[/caption] In 2009, the first day of the newly formed Maharashtra assembly was expected to be eventful but it turned out to be historic, and that too shamefully. Some of the netas, instead of taking oaths decided to swear at each other. If that wasn’t enough, they even resorted to physical assault. In the eye of the storm was Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MLA from Shivajinagar-Mankhurd Abu Asim Azmi, who was physically attacked by MNS MLAs for taking the oath in Hindi instead of Marathi. The four netas involved in the incident were later suspended from the Vidhan Bhavan for four years. MPs pull out knife, pepper spray in Parliament [caption id=“attachment_1844803” align=“alignnone” width=“600”] Image: ibnlive[/caption] Earier this year, one parliamentarian reportedly took out a knife in the Lok Sabha and another used pepper spray in unprecedented clashes in Parliament over the issue of the Telangana Bill. During clashes near the Lok Sabha speaker’s chair, TDP MP T Venugopal allegedly took out a knife, which resulted in several MPs fleeing the Parliament. Congress MP L Rajgopal used pepper spray as two sets of MPs - for and against Telangana - rushed to the Well of the Lok Sabha and started fighting. The impact of the spray was so severe that a Parliament doctor was rushed in and the Lok Sabha had to be aired out.
