New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari today slammed the UPA government and the Congress party in particular for allegedly putting whistleblowers behind bars in the cash-for-votes scam. After meeting the three jailed MPs at Tihar jail in the national capital, Gadkari said, “Congress general secretary Ahmad Patel and other Congress leaders approved of this scam. The honest are in jail while the perpetrators are roaming free.” Taking a dig at the Congress party, the BJP president said, “When we get the chance we will ensure that those roaming free are sent to Tihar. People have lost faith in CBI which has now become a Congress’ tool for political blackmails.”[caption id=“attachment_119908” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“BJP president Nitin Gadkari. [/caption] Expressing surprise over the failure of the jailed party MPs to secure bail, he said, “I fail to understand why they are not granted bail even after the charge-sheet is framed. It is a matter for the judicicary to ponder. I have faith in the judiciary.” The Delhi High Court today asked for response from Delhi Police on the bail pleas of Sudheendra Kulkarni, former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mahabir Singh Bhagora and alleged BJP activist Suhail Hindustani in the cash-for-vote scam. On 24 October, Amar Singh, the main accused in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam has received bail on humanitarian grounds. The bail was granted on the basis of a medical report submitted to the court by the AIIMS hospital, which said that he was suffering from renal failure and he still had complications from a kidney transplant last year. It added that Singh needed to be transferred to a private hospital for more effective treatment because his condition was critical and he needed constant monitoring. The Delhi police had accepted the report earlier.
