Firstpost had earlier reported
that AAP volunteers noticed him trying to kill himself, and stopped him and rushed him to the hospital. Visuals being shared on TV and social media show the farmer hanging from the branch of the tree with a white cloth that he had made into a noose. The blame games begun right after the news broke out, and where some blamed Kejriwal and AAP for the misfortune, AAP leader Ashutosh blamed the Delhi Police. “It is the Delhi police that did not do its duty,” he said. Reports also suggested that Kejriwal continued his speech even after learning about the suicide. Reacting to the criticism towards Kejriwal, he sarcastically said, “From the next time we will ask the Delhi CM Kejriwal himself to climb up a tree and save the farmer. It is Kejriwal’s fault that he himself did not climb up the tree.” Following the incident #AAPKisanRally started to trend on Twitter. At first people were quick to blame Kejriwal and AAP:
There were some tweets that urged people to focus on the issue and stop politicising it.
However, the trolls on Twitter never sleep. Some tweets called the entire stunt a conspiracy, blamed Kejriwal for the farmer’s death, and also used the hashtags #ShameOnKejriwal and #KillerKejriwal
