Chennai: Protests on Lankan Tamils issue continued today with Sri Lankan Tamil expatriates and refugees as well as students protesting in various parts of the city. Over 500 Sri Lankan Tamil expatriates residing in the city observed a day-long fast. Similarly, 45 inmates of the Puzhal refugee camp also went on a day’s fast, police said. Firstpost[/caption] Elsewehere, students and political outfits conducted various forms of protests including fast, rail and road blockade, police added. India along with 24 other countries yesterday backed a US-sponsored resolution at UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against Sri Lanka asking it to conduct an “independent and credible” probe into allegations of human rights violations.
