Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his first rally in Daltonganj, Jharkhand on Friday calling on voters to end “JMM’s dynasty politics” in the state, formally kicking off BJP’s election campaign in the state. “Nothing will improve in Jharkhand unless you rid the state of dynasty politics. The ruling party (JMM) has looted the people. Jharkhand government said it won’t let union ministers enter the state, but will it help?” he asked as crowds cheered him on. “Jharkhand government did not want Modi’s ministers to come because they knew their misdeeds would be exposed,” he said. He also said that the nation had been in trouble for 60 years and that time had come to move towards development. I want to make sure girls don’t drop out of school and complete their education. This cannot go on anymore,” he said. Taking pot shots at the Congress, Modi said that they stole money from the poor and never cared for their growth. “The Congress nationalised banks years ago claiming it would help the poor. But they only took away the money. Have you seen a poor man open a bank account? Part of Jan Dhan Yojna, the task which could not be completed in 60 years was done in 60 days,” he said. “Previous governments were ashamed of talking about these small things. I’ve decided we have to rise above these petty things,” he said. Speaking of his recent foreign visits, Modi said that he always kept farmers and the poor in his thoughts wherever he went. “I’ve been telling the world to come to India and make trains and roads and work for development here. It will provide our youth with employment. Development is the way forward. The world is looking at India with renewed enthusiasm,” he said. Pitching for the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, Modi thanked people for the resounding Lok Sabha polls victory. “See Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh. States with significant tribal communities elected BJP and BJP works for them. Last time I came to Jharkhand only half the number of people gathered today turned up for my rally. Things are different and development is the only way forward,” he said.
Modi also said that the nation has been in trouble for 60 years and that time had come to move towards development.
