Election results: BJP clearly leads in MP, Rajasthan; tied in Chhattisgarh, Delhi

Initial leads seemed to indicate that the BJP would form the government in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan but may not have it as easy in Delhi and Chhattisgarh in state elections that are said to indicate how the national elections will go in 2014. In Delhi, the BJP was leading but debutants Aam Aadmi Party seemed to be set to become the second largest party in the Delhi Assembly. According to initial estimates, the BJP was leading in 27 seats, AAP in 20 and Congress was leading in 9 seats. [caption id=“attachment_1273559” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Reuters[/caption] BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan told CNN-IBN, that he was confident that the party would come to power in Delhi. “I never interfered in the campaign strategy,” he said. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has already declared that his party will not ally with the BJP in the event of a hung result. According to initial leads, the BJP had a clear lead in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with the party seeming to have decimated their opponents in the two states. Exit polls had predicted a similar result. However, in Chhattisgarh, where the party is projected to hold on to power, the BJP was tied with the Congress with both parties running neck and neck as per estimates at 9 am.
