Ahmedabad: Even as the Narendra Modi-led BJP edged out Congress in all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, it has emerged that 24 of the party’s winners defeated their rivals by margins of more than one lakh votes. The 24 seats which went to BJP include Narendra Modi’s Vadodara and LK Advani’s Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seats. IBNLive[/caption] Leading the list in terms of the victory margin was none other than the country’s prime minister-in-waiting Modi who defeated Congress’s Madhusudan Mistry by 5,70,128 votes in Vadodara. BJP’s candidate for the Navsari Lok Sabha seat, CR Patil, defeated Congress’s Maqsood Mirza by a margin of 5,58,116 votes while the party’s Darshna Zardosh won the Surat Lok Sabha seat after trouncing Naishadh Desai of Congress by a margin of 5,33,190 votes. Advani, who has been elected for the sixth time from Gandhinagar, won by a margin of 4,63,121 votes. Actor and BJP candidate Paresh Rawal defeated his Congress rival Himmatsinh Patel by 3,26,636 votes in the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. Other BJP nominees who won by margins of more than two lakh votes are Kirit Solanki (3,20,311) from Ahmedabad West, Vinod Chavda (2,54,482) from Kutch, Hari Chaudhary (2,02,334) from Banaskantha and Bharti Shiyal (2,95,488) from Bhavnagar. Other candidates include Jaswantsinh Bhabhor (2,30,354) from Dahod, Devusinh Chauhan (2,32,901) from Kheda, Jayshree Patel (2,08,891) from Mehsana, Vitthal Radadiya (2,67,971) from Porabandar, Mohan Kundariya (2,46,428) from Rajkot and Devji Fatehpura (2,02,907) from Surendranagar. In the politically lucky constituency of Valsad, BJP’s KC Patel defeated two-time Congress MP Kishan Patel by a whopping margin of 2,08,412 votes. BJP leaders who won by margins of more than 1 lakh votes include Naran Kachhadiya (1,56,232) from Amreli, Mansukh Vasava (1,53,273) from Bharuch, Ramsinh Rathwa (1,79,729) from Chhota Udaipur, Poonam Maadam (1,75,289) from Jamnagar, Leeladhar Waghela (1,38,719) from Patan and Prabhatsinh Chauhan (1,70,596) from Panchmahals. The BJP candidate in Bardoli, Prabhu Vasava, won by a margin of 1,23,745 votes while in Junagadh, BJP’s Rajesh Chudasma defeated Congress’s Punja Vansh by a margin of 1,35,593 votes. The only two seats where the margin was less than one lakh votes for BJP were Anand and Sabarkantha. BJP’s Dilip Patel polled 4,90,829 votes against Bharat Solanki of Congress, who has been holding the Anand seat for two terms but lost this time by a margin of 63,426 votes. In Sabarkantha, former Union minister for textiles Shankarsinh Waghela of Congress was defeated by a margin of 84,455 votes by BJP’s Dipsinh Rathod. PTI
