EC directs revision of electoral rolls of service personnel

New Delhi: The Election Commission has ordered intensive revision of electoral rolls relating to service personnel to remove names of those who have either retired or died. The last time the electoral rolls of service personnel were drafted afresh was in 2002. The last part of the electoral rolls of each constituency contains the names of service electors belonging to the armed forces, personnel of Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force, members of armed police force serving outside the state, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, personnel of General Reserve Engineer Force in Border Roads Organisations, Central Industrial Security Force and persons employed by the central government serving outside India.[caption id=“attachment_1831449” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Trimming voter list. However, this concession is not available to her husband if residing with her, the Commission said in a statement. If any service elector fails to submit fresh statements along with the prescribed declaration, his name will not be included in the last part even though his name might have appeared in the existing or earlier roll. The commission has fixed 1 January 2015 as the qualifying date for all states and UTs, except Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand. The process will end with final publication of last part of the electoral rolls on 1 April 2015. PTI
