DMK chief Karunanidhi wooing youth to ensure dynastic rule continues: CPI

Coimbatore: Mocking DMK chief M Karunanidhi for wooing the youth in Tamil Nadu to make him Chief Minister again at the age of 92, CPI leader D Pandian on Sunday alleged that his sole aim was to see that the “dynastic rule” continues. The DMK supremo was calling upon the youths as the hope of the future, to come and vote out AIADMK so that he can become Chief Minister at the age of 92 years, Pandian told reporters. Pandian alleged that Karunanidhi had failed in his democratic duty as an elected representative to attend assembly sessions in the last five years and sought to know what was the guarantee that he would attend the house if his party was not voted to power. Image courtesy Youtube[/caption] “Though he (Karunanidhi) has every right to contest elections, people want to know whether he will attend the assembly proceedings only as a Chief Minister,” he said. He recalled that the DMK chief had won the 2011 elections by a good majority after claiming they would be his last, “playing with the sentiments of the people of Thiruvarur.” Pandian said DMK had failed to implement its election promises, where it had assured two acres of land for landless across the state. He sought to know if DMK would come good on its promise of reducing procurement prices of milk from farmers, so that it could be sold at Rs seven lesser price. Also by fixing Rs 2,500 per quintal of paddy, rice prices would increase by 30 per cent, which would affect farmers. “What DMK should instead have done was to assure reducing prices of fertilisers and also excise duties on various articles used by farmers,” the CPI leader said. DMK, “which had sought and got plum portfolios” during the UPA regime, should have asked for Water Resources ministry so that the Mullaperiyar, Cauvery and Palar river water issues could have been amicably solved, Pandian said.
