Chennai: DMK on Saturday appealed to the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against AIADMK workers for allegedly denigrating the special judge who awarded four years jail term to their leader Jayalalithaa in a wealth case and the verdict itself. [caption id=“attachment_1752543” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] DMK chief Karunanidhi. Reuters[/caption] “The Chief Justices of the Supreme and Madras High courts should take contempt action against AIADMK ministers and partymen,” a resolution adopted at the meeting of DMK’s lawyers’ wing in Chennai said. The resolution, however, did not specifically name any leader of the AIADMK for what it called “denigrating” the judgement of Bangalore Special Court Judge, John Michael Cunha, who had on 27 September sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years simple imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case. The judge was denigrated “personally” and acts “inimical” to the cordial relationship between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were being done by AIADMK functionaries, it alleged. Another resolution exhorted the DMK functionaries to take appropriate legal action in their respective districts against “AIADMK ministers and workers” for the violence and damage that allegedly followed the verdict against Jayalalithaa. The DMK functionaries should launch a propaganda drive in all districts on the wealth case and the Bangalore court verdict against Jayalalithaa by using social media and micro blogging sites and other communication avenues like the Short Messaging Services (SMS), a third resolution said. DMK Organisation and Legal Wing Secretary RS Barathi presided over the meeting of district organisers of the party’s lawyers’ wing. PTI
