Delhi polls: Sheila Dikshit meets Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi and discussed issues relating to preparation for upcoming assembly election, in which Congress will seek to retain power for the fourth consecutive term. Dikshit’s meeting with Gandhi came before AICC announced a major organisational reshuffle, in which Shakeel Ahmed has been made AICC in-charge of Delhi. PTI[/caption] Another prominent Congress leader from Delhi Ajay Maken has been made General Secretary of AICC. Assembly polls in Delhi is scheduled for November. Sources said Dikshit briefed Gandhi about a number of initiatives taken by her government to provide relief to those living in 1,639 unauthorised colonies in the city. She also informed the Congress President about measures announced by her government yesterday to provide relief to residents of villagers by relaxing norms governing uses of agricultural land. In a meeting last week, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had asked both Dikshit and DPCC President JP Aggarwal to work in close coordination with each other to ensure the Congress wins the assembly poll. Dikshit and Aggarwal are not known to have a very cordial relationship with each other. In a move aimed at wooing rural voters ahead of assembly polls, the Delhi Government on Saturday announced extension of Lal Dora and lifting of restriction on use of agriculture land for construction. The decisions will help lakhs of villagers get their properties registered and carry out construction works after approval of building plans from authorities. Dikshit has also informed Gandhi about implementation of various welfare schemes like Annashri yojna and kerosene-free Delhi. PTI
