Delhi polls: Ready to play any role to respect people's will, says Congress' Ajay Maken

New Delhi: With surveys predicting AAP's victory in Assembly elections, Congress on Sunday said if opinion and exit polls are correct, the will of the people should prevail in a democracy and that it was ready to play whatever role people of Delhi entrust upon it.

"Well last time (in 2013 Assembly polls) when AAP got 28 seats, at that time also it seemed people of Delhi wanted AAP to govern them, and many of the votes got transferred to some other symbols like torch...people perhaps wanted AAP, and had it not been for symbol torch, they would have got a majority on their own.

"So, I think people really want to give AAP a chance and if the exit polls, opinion polls are correct, so if that is the case, the will of the people should prevail in a democracy. And, whatever role people decide for us, we are ready to play," Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken said in New Delhi.

AAP in last Delhi polls had garnered 28 seats, while BJP had emerged as a single-largest party with 31 seats and Congress finished a poor third with just 8.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress in-charge PC Chacko expressed doubt over the internal survey conducted by various parties.

"I do not think, the surveys or assessments are entirely correct. The survey which came out yesterday also, has been done in a wholesale manner, considering the superfluous situation...not the internal or at the grassroots level. Just like the RSS or BJP also, their internal survey would be in their favour. And, AAP has also done a survey in which it has given over 50 seats," he said.
